At the annual New Jersey School Boards convention this week, teachers Ronda Ferri and Caroline Mann were invited to present on food waste, based on their work with Sustainable New Jersey.

Their presentation, “Reimagining the School Cafeteria to Reduce Food Waste,” shared creative ideas to make our cafeterias more sustainable by implementing student-led waste audits to reduce overall food waste.

Thank you Ronda and Caroline for representing our school community and inspiring others across New Jersey!

We’re proud to share that the New Jersey School Boards Association recognized CTSD lunch aide Ruth Krysinski as one of this year’s Unsung Superheroes in Education! This award celebrates the invaluable contributions of school district staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes but often go unrecognized.

She received this well-deserved award at the NJSBA Annual Convention earlier this week, a true testament to her dedication, compassion, and tireless work on behalf of students, even at the young age of 95!

She is pictured here with Superintendent Dr. Melissa Stager, Business Administrator Dr. Gretchen Dempsey, and CTSD board members Matthew Fernandes, Lana Brennan, Michael Blumenfeld, and Jennifer Kaltenbach.

Please join us in congratulating Ruth on this incredible honor!

Tomorrow (February 12, 2025), CTSD has an early dismissal scheduled for staff professional development. We are watching the weather forecast, and though it looks like we should be fine, the weather often changes. If we call a delayed opening in the morning (2/12/25), we will have a regular dismissal, not an early dismissal. If the roads are safe in the morning, we will proceed with the early dismissal as planned. The YMCA before and aftercare is ready for both scenarios. If we have a delay and move to a regular dismissal, we will serve lunch with a limited menu. More details will be provided if we do have a delay. As always, student safety is our priority. We know it is hard to navigate unplanned events and we hope that making this call will help us avoid making up unplanned days in the future. We thank you for being understanding.
